Screens ‘R’ Us
There’s no question about it, screens are a problem for kids and adults. I notice it even with my 83 year old mother. The blue light is pervasive. Are we slaves to the dopamine hit? Can I really go a day without the beeps and bings of my phone or laptop? I truly wish for silence. And, now that it is summer it’s really time to pull away from electronic devices. I’m in this gap between consulting and I have a lot of freedom, so why am I consumed with playing chess on my phone? Real answer: I’m very competitive.
I could do anything I want outside. I can walk the dog, walk myself, go stand-up paddleboarding, bounce my lacrosse ball off a school building for some ‘wall ball’, so many options. Think of all the hikes and roses you could smell if only you put your phone down for 1 hour. Let’s brainstorm this and come up with some incentives for screens-off time for ourselves and our families.
Join me on Saturday, June 27th at 3:30pm at Belmar Library for an interactive workshop about screentime. I’m going old school with this presentation and it’ll be a fun, casual sit down time with some game ideas you can play with your family.
